Global Egg Nutrition Expert Group

The Global Egg Nutrition Expert Group was formed by the WEO to focus on developing, collating and optimising research on the nutritional value of eggs. This will be disseminated to stakeholders across the globe, from producers through to health professionals and consumers.

Suresh Chitturi

Chair of Global Egg Nutrition Expert Group

Driven by a farmer-first philosophy, Suresh is passionate about ensuring that the poultry industry is healthy and sustainable through adoption of the latest technologies, good rearing practices and welfare of the livestock. Suresh served as WEO Chair from 2019 to 2022, and offers expertise across a range of specialisms in the egg industry, including chicken breeding, chicken and egg processing, feed manufacturing and soya oil extraction and processing.

Suresh is also Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Srinivasa Farms, a dominant force in the Indian Poultry Industry. Since assuming leadership, he has steered Srinivasa through expansion and diversification, to achieve significant, sustainable growth. An avid reader, he also loves to travel and learn about different cultures and their history.

Andrew Joret

Andrew has been working in the egg industry for over 35 years. He served as Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) for 11 years, and is Group Technical Director at Noble Foods, one of the world’s leading egg businesses.

In his role as Chair of BEIC he represented the UK egg industry on all levels of the value chain from breeding to processing and marketing, under the British Lion Scheme. Andrew also sat on WEO’s Executive Board from 2002-2023, serving as Office Holder between 2007-2023.

Kalpana Beesabathuni

Kalpana is Managing Director at Sight and Life, a Swiss-based humanitarian think-tank that informs, supports, designs, and incubates evidence-based malnutrition solutions to free the world from malnutrition.

In her role, Kalpana advances game-changing business solutions, products, and technologies in low-income contexts across several countries in Africa and Asia. Working with farmers and entrepreneurs from grassroots to large enterprises, she ensures affordable nutrition solutions reach the most vulnerable.

Kalpana has worked in many multi-cultural and science-driven contexts to aid innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture, food, nutrition, global health, water, and renewable energy sectors.

Dr Mickey Rubin

Dr. Mickey Rubin is the Executive Director of the Egg Nutrition Center (ENC), the science and education division of the American Egg Board. He is passionate about nutrition science and how the foods we eat impact health.

Prior to joining ENC, Dr. Rubin had a variety of roles in the food industry, starting at Kraft Foods where he was a senior nutrition scientist, as well as National Dairy Council where he served as Vice President of Nutrition Research. Dr. Rubin earned a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut, where his research interests focused on human nutrition, exercise physiology, and endocrinology.

A member of the American Society of Nutrition, Dr Rubin is also the author or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers and text book chapters covering the topics of nutrition and exercise science.

Dr Nikhil Dhurandhar

Dr Nikhil Dhurandhar is a professor, Helen Devitt Jones Endowed Chair, and Chair of the department of Nutritional Sciences at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, USA.

As a physician and nutritional biochemist, he has been involved with obesity treatment and research for 35 years. His research focuses on molecular biological aspects of obesity and diabetes in particular, obesity due to viruses, and clinical treatment of obesity. He has conducted numerous clinical studies to examine the effect of drugs as well as foods such as breakfast cereals or eggs, on obesity, satiety and various metabolic parameters. His pioneering studies demonstrated the role of eggs in inducing satiety and weight loss.

Olga Patricia Castillo

Olga is Egg Program Director of Colombia’s national poultry association, FENAVI, having gained more than 10 years’ experience in communications and advertising with food companies. A graduate of marketing, Olga specialises in the environmental benefits of products, promotion to an international audience and delivery of digital communication strategies.

Tamara Saslove

Tamara Saslove is the Nutrition Officer with Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC). She is a Registered Dietitian, Chef and Marketing Professional and has worked in many different areas within the field of nutrition including marketing, research, recipe development, continuing education for health professionals and more.

Tamara is passionate about taking the latest nutrition research and translating it into easily digestible information and actionable bites to help consumers to lead healthier lives. At EFC Tamara is the lead on all nutrition science projects for both consumers and health care professionals and is excited to help Canadians enjoy more eggs and reap the nutritional benefits they provide!

Dr Tia Rains

Dr Tia Rains is a nutrition scientist and communications expert with more than 25 years’ experience developing and translating nutrition research to inform efforts that advance public policy, product development, and ultimately human health.

Dr Rains is presently Vice President of Science, Innovation & Corporate Affairs for Ajinomoto Health & Nutrition North America, a global food company and leader in the research and application of amino acids. Prior to this, Dr Rains was Executive Director of the Egg Nutrition Center where she administered a $2 million research grant program and directed professional communications.
